Spine Chillers

美国 | 汉语普通话 | 综艺 纪录片

The scorpion's sting is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people a year around the world. Yet this programme aims to show that despite these figures the scorpion is not as dangerous an animal as its reputation suggests. In fact the scorpion has the capacity to save more human lives than are lost due to its sting. We follow Scorpion Biologist Professor Philip Brownell on a tour around the USA and into Mexico as he shows us why scorpions have become a problem to humans and how that problem can be minimised. He then takes a closer look at this animal to discover a creature of extraordinary toughness and complexity. It can survive nuclear detonation, and being frozen solid, parts of its body are toughened with heavy metals and it can detect its prey with senses straight out of science fiction. The body plan of the scorpion is inspiring cutting-edge breakthroughs in robotics.
