Scott Wightman was appointed as British Ambassador to Korea in November 2011. He has worked many years overseas including Italy, France and China, and made various efforts to develop diplomatic activities between the UK and the countries named above.London 2012 Olympics, the world’s biggest international sports gala, will make its start in a few days. London has hosted the Olympic Games on two past occasions, in 1908 and 1948, and the planned London 2012 Olympics will make London the first city in history to have hosted the modern Games of three Olympiads. Londoners are very proud that such a remarkable project is taking place in their city and over 20,000 people have participated in building the new venues and infrastructure for the Olympics. London is in a festival atmosphere making the final preparations for the opening ceremony of the Olympics and the atmosphere is building throughout the country. And here we have Mr. Scott Wightman, British Ambassador to Korea. Wightman started getting interested in Korea since he discovered the dynamism and liveliness of Korea. He is currently trying to generate more interests and more enthusiasm for the Olympic Games here in Korea and also wants to deliver the same level of heat to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics. Wightman has been seeking various ways to promote all kinds of exchanges between Korea and the UK. This year, Korea had an important visit from British Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg; and as the year 2012 celebrates Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the celebration also took place in Korea. Furthermore, Wightman attended the Presidential Council on National Branding Conference and distinguished a lecture about what the UK is trying to do to update Korean people’s perceptions of the country as well as sharing their experience of building the national brand image.
